July 2022 Blog What's on Your To-Do List?

Move on up

Have you noticed this in the past few years? That your health is moving up on the to-do list?

People who were 55-90 years old were surveyed about their beliefs about their health and what contributed to a healthy lifestyle in a new study by AARP and National Geographic.

It was noted that participants recognized that good health is no longer a given and it’s a critical time to stabilize health and engage in activities that will improve wellbeing.

These last few weeks, I’ve been part of a teaching lab of my own making as I recover from Covid.

The three days of fever were debilitating and the lingering lung issues were worrisome and troubling.

I’ve known several people with long-haul Covid symptoms and wanted to avoid dealing, at all costs, with the ongoing effects of this insidious virus.

Keep this list handy

That’s when I created the list of alternative therapies that I repeated until I had that moment…you know it… I woke up one day and my head and chest felt clearer and my energy is returning.

Let me take out my healing wand and spread a little magic your way.

These are a few of the recuperative and health-stabilizing remedies in my arsenal:

You’ve probably done many of these.

I offer them as a gentle reminder when/if you or a loved one falls ill…

  • Eat chopped garlic-until you feel like a vampire! Cook with it, eat it raw on crackers, roast it and eat it on bread or spread on whatever is on your dinner plate.
  • Enjoy a flower arrangement-it was so uplifting to receive the amazing flower arrangement from Wells. Even one bloom on your bedside table can perk up your spirits.

  • Rosehip tincture-there’s 200 times more vitamin C in rosehips than in a lemon. Take 1 dropperful three times a day in the critical days of an illness.
  • Sauté onions-kind of like the garlic…eat them with everything. Add curry powder.
  • Citrus mocktail-squeeze the juice of a lemon or lime into a big mug.      Add 12 oz water and 1 tablespoon maple syrup (it mixes so easily) and drink. Wear warm socks.

One of the reasons I am such a huge proponent of being proactive about health is reducing the time it takes to come back from illness, or deal with lifestyle changes that accompany a new health diagnosis.

Often, we don’t think about good health until we don’t have it. Then, it’s all we think about.

Bibbidy bobbidi boo.

May your next recovery be speedy.

And your health, steady.
